In 2019 we wrote about Volkswagen’s plans to produce more EVs than Tesla in 2022. Well… it will not happen. Recently Volkswagen updated its plans and now targets 800,000 electric vehicles to be produced by the end of 2022. This will fall far short of Tesla production numbers. By the end of Q3 Tesla has already produced over 900,000 electric vehicles.

Even though Tesla is facing growing pains with its mega-factories in Texas and Germany, it still handily out-produced Volkswagen. Still, there are those in the industry who believe that by 2024 both Tesla and Volkswagen will produce around 2.5 million electric cars each, with a slight edge going to Volkswagen.

At German Auto Sport in Berkeley we are looking forward to increased availability of electric Volkswagens. In the meantime, you can bring your conventionally powered VW to our Berkeley “Everything German” facility – our nationally ASE certified technicians have extensive Volkswagen repair experience, and whether your VW needs factory scheduled maintenance, or is facing major repairs, they can get it diagnosed and fixed – and it will be done right the first time. We stand behind our work with a 3 year / 36,000 mile warranty.

So next time your Volkswagen needs a bit of TLC, call us to make an appointment, or request an appointment online, on our website.
